How can we design livable spaces within the planet’s water constraints? The Enric Miralles Foundation, in collaboration with Roca Barcelona Gallery, presented the discussion “Water Sustainability: Architectures for a Hydrological Future,” a discussion held as part of Barcelona World Capital of Architecture 2026 that invited participants to reflect on the role of water as one of the key determinants of 21st-century architectural and urban design.
What changes when we stop thinking of water as a resource? The Enric Miralles Foundation and Newave, as part of the w a t e r s p a c e initiative and in collaboration with the POLLEN 2026 Conference, presented the dialogue “(Re)materializing the Political Ecology of Water,” a dialogue based on a fundamental premise: that water is not merely a natural resource, but a living substance whose materiality shapes the social, political, and ecological relationships that underpin our territories.
The Enric Miralles Foundation inaugurated “Liquid Architectures: Water Draws Always in Plural,” an exhibition that highlights the relationship between water and architecture through the archives, drawings, and projects of Enric Miralles and Benedetta Tagliabue – EMBT Architects, as part of Barcelona World Capital of Architecture 2026.
The opening discussion featured special guests Benedetta Tagliabue and Sir Peter Cook, who was invited to attend the presentation of his exhibition “Cities and Pavilions” at our foundation.
