Water Sustainability

How can we design livable spaces within the planet’s water constraints? The Enric Miralles Foundation, in collaboration with Roca Barcelona Gallery, presented the discussion “Water Sustainability: Architectures for a Hydrological Future,” a discussion held as part of Barcelona World Capital of Architecture 2026 that invited participants to reflect on the role of water as one of the key determinants of 21st-century architectural and urban design.

POLLEN: Political Ecology Network

What changes when we stop thinking of water as a resource? The Enric Miralles Foundation and Newave, as part of the w a t e r s p a c e initiative and in collaboration with the POLLEN 2026 Conference, presented the dialogue “(Re)materializing the Political Ecology of Water,” a dialogue based on a fundamental premise: that water is not merely a natural resource, but a living substance whose materiality shapes the social, political, and ecological relationships that underpin our territories.

Designing with Water: Opening Liquid Architectures

The Enric Miralles Foundation inaugurated “Liquid Architectures: Water Draws Always in Plural,” an exhibition that highlights the relationship between water and architecture through the archives, drawings, and projects of Enric Miralles and Benedetta Tagliabue – EMBT Architects, as part of Barcelona World Capital of Architecture 2026. The opening discussion featured special guests Benedetta Tagliabue and Sir Peter Cook, who was invited to attend the presentation of his exhibition “Cities and Pavilions” at our foundation.

Water as an Invisible Substance

How much water is there in what we cannot see? The Enric Miralles Foundation, in collaboration with Roca Barcelona Gallery, presented the discussion “Water as an Invisible Material: Water Hidden in Materials,” a discussion held as part of Barcelona World Capital of Architecture 2026 that sought to rethink the relationship between architecture, water resources, and production processes from environmental, material, and cultural perspectives.

Can architecture become a form of care? The Enric Miralles Foundation presented the dialogue “Architecture of Hope,” an event that proposes rethinking the role of architecture in creating spaces that support and care for people in contexts of illness.

How does your brain respond to spaces? The Enric Miralles Foundation hosted the discussion “Neuroarchitecture: Design and Emotional Well-being,” an event held as part of Barcelona World Capital of Architecture 2026. This interdisciplinary event encouraged reflection on how architecture, in dialogue with neuroscience, can influence people’s mental health and emotional well-being, highlighting the impact of the built environment on our daily lives.

Humanization of Hospital Care

How can architecture contribute to healing? The Enric Miralles Foundation hosted the discussion “Humanizing Hospitals: Care and Well-being in Healthcare Settings,” an event held as part of the launch of Barcelona as World Capital of Architecture 2026. This event prompted an in-depth reflection on the humanization of hospital spaces and the influence of the built environment on people’s emotional, physical, and social well-being.

HEALING ARCHITECTURES

The exhibition starts from an essential premise: to think of architecture as an act of care. A gesture that materializes in Healing Architectures: Designing Spaces of Care, where projects, models and drawings unfold as a continuous reading on how space can welcome, accompany and heal. Through the proposals developed for a future Kálida Center in Barcelona, the exhibition invites visitors to explore an architecture conceived not as a clinical object, but as a sensitive refuge, capable of weaving links between the hospital, the city and the human experience of care.

23rd edition Loop Festival_Miratges Mirages

The exhibition starts from a direct gesture: projecting Torita-encuetada on a curved screen to create an immersive experience. Elyla’s work, inspired by the framed bull and reinterpreted from a queer and anti-colonial point of view, invites the visitor to walk through a ritual space where image, body and memory intertwine.

MIRALLES_The Blue Blot

The exhibition is based on a simple idea: to imagine an open book, unfolded without interruption, as a continuous reading. A gesture that gives rise to the presentation of the recently published book Tramas de la Memoria, where one hundred and thirty open copies invite the visitor to travel through the universe of Enric Miralles.

In Depth Urban Domesticities Today

“In Depth” examines how housing might promote the well-being of its inhabitants by presenting new typologies for our ever-more urbanized world .

Loop Festival

During the festival, two short films were presented: The Wind by Lenka Clayton and Phillip Andrew Lewis, and Cucli by Xavier Marrades. Guest speaker Joseph Del Pesco introduced and explained both works. The Wind is a video piece composed of 1,400 found film fragments, each depicting the invisible force of the wind, building to a powerful tornado. The work encourages a meditative awareness of the unseen, moving through time and space. Cucli is an intimate portrait of the trust between a man and a bird, set in the director’s hometown of Cervera. The film explores themes of love, companionship, and the transformative power of connection between species. Joseph Del Pesco provided insights and context for both films during the presentation.

MAS WEEK TARANTO

The aim of the Workshop is the analysis and study of the urban spaces of the Borgo Umbertino of the City of Taranto, for the role they play in contributing to the improvement of the quality of life and the experiences of people who live or visit cities. The output of the study will be the co-design and self-construction of urban spaces where it is possible to meet, play, plan events and activities taking into consideration the distinctive architectural, climatic and cultural elements of the Mediterranean area, introducing new models of use of urban and living spaces, capable of supporting new social and intercultural demands and innovative strategies to reduce energy consumption.

Memory notebook

The five-day workshop provides the tools to learn the EMBT Miralles Tagliabue method, inviting students to participate in the most fundamental part of project development: the study of the site through their own eyes. For Enric Miralles and Benedetta Tagliabue, studying and representing the site is already considered part of the architectural design process.

A new Auditorium for the Palafolls Public Library

A four-week intensive architectural design studio will take place in the city of Barcelona, Spain, during the summer of 2024. This program was created by Professor Llonch in 2002 for SSA CCNY Students and partially funded (in perpetuity) by David Werber, an alumnus of the school. The goal is to engage a group of 15 students from the Spitzer School of Architecture CCNY in a concentrated architectural experience while taking a clear approach to interacting with the City of Barcelona, its unique architecture, people, and culture.

Dedalo Minosse

The Prize Dedalo Minosse was founded in 1997 by ALA Assoarchitetti and it recognizes every two years the best clients of architecture in the world. The Prize is opened to public or private clients, who have carried out a work in the last five years. In 2023 , for the 13th edition of the prize , the ceremony was held in barcelona in the Fundació Enric Miralles.
