Miralles + Le Corbusier: diaries of a trip to India

Exhibition at the Enric Miralles Foundation
Starts on 22/11/2024 End on 31/07/2019

The exhibition is inspired by the research carried out by architect Josep Quetglas on the sketches made by Enric Miralles and Elías Torres during their trip to India in 1992. At the center of the trip was a visit to Le Corbusier’s architecture in the cities of Chandigarh and Ahmedabad.

They were accompanied by the Städelschule, which Enric directed in those years, Benedetta Tagliabue, Valerio Ferrari, Mogens Krustrup, Jesús Menéndez, Thomas and Helke Bayrle, Götze Stockmann and Klaus Bollinger. The Porte Email of the Parliament in Chandigarh was a kind of magical destination for the group.

Photographs, sketches and unpublished travel diaries will allow the visitor to relive that journey through the eyes of the architects. Several of the travelers carried pencil and paper with them, capturing everything that attracted them around them. On many occasions Enric and Elías drew the same motif, one next to the other.

Enric filled with his blue ink fountain pen some 10,5x15cm hard cover sketchbooks, as well as taking slides to create later his panoramic montages, while Elias filled with black pen some 14x21cm hartbound sketchbooks.
