Perpetuum Mobile | Interni – Milan

Miralles and Tagliabue’s house, a Gothic building whose walls were torn down to create an open storage space in the 1950s, imagined a house in movement, where even the furniture had no fixed place or form, but could be moved or modified according to the needs of the moment. The exhibition offers a unique insight into the detail and craftsmanship of the architects’ domestic environment, including a recently discovered piece rediscovered in 2020 from among Enric Miralles’ personal sketchbooks. Although the interior design projects of Enric Miralles and Benedetta Tagliabue have been the subject of numerous exhibitions, this is the first time that the unique domestic landscape of their Barcelona home has been shown publicly in an exhibition in Italy.

The exhibition consists of pieces of furniture and objects developed primarily for the home of architects Enric Miralles and Benedetta Tagliabue, which have been reproduced and exhibited thanks to the support of the American Hardwood Export Council (AHEC), in a selection of sustainable American hardwoods donated by AE Maderas. Perpetuum Mobile is supported by lamps, also designed by Benedetta Tagliabue of Barcelona-based lighting company Bover.

The exhibition has been designed by Benedetta Tagliabue – EMBT Architects, in collaboration with the Fundació Enric Miralles.
