Loop Festival | Joseph del Pesco
For this edition of the LOOP festival , curator Joseph Del Pesco introduces a selection of films that resonate with the organic architectural motifs of the Fundació Enric Miralles, a space conceived as a love letter from Italian born architect Benedetta Tagliabue to her late partner (personal and professional) Enric Miralles. In his curatorial introduction, Del Pesco reflects on how these two short films—The Wind by Lenka Clayton and Phillip Andrew Lewis, and Cucli by Xavier Marrades—speak to the themes of environmental consciousness and cross-species relationships, which are central both to the festival and the work of EMBT.
Del Pesco explains that The Wind, created by the UK/US duo Clayton and Lewis, is a meditative video that uses 1,400 found film fragments to explore the invisible force of wind, evoking the flow of natural forms seen in EMBT’s architecture. Similarly, Cucli, Marrades’ intimate portrait of a man and a dove, explores the themes of love, loss, and memory, mirroring the deep connections that exist between humans and the natural world. Both works emphasize the enduring relevance of environmental awareness, a theme increasingly urgent in today’s world.
Joseph Del Pesco’s introduction frames these films within the context of the Fundació’s ethos, connecting the works to a broader reflection on memory, loss, and the transformative power of nature. He provides valuable insights into the films’ thematic underpinnings, inviting the audience to consider how these narratives cross boundaries of time, space, and species.
